Schools Closed Today: The recent upsurge in the number of COVID-19 cases across the country has compelled various state governments to close down their schools and other educational institutions yet again. The schools and educational institutions across the country were shut down in March last year when the coronavirus pandemic first broke out in the country. As situation normalized, schools and educational institutions were reopened in various states. However, the recent upsurge in the number of COVID-19 cases has forced several state governments to close down their schools and educational institutions. Here is a list of state where schools and other educational institutions have either been closed down or their closure has been extended.
Uttar Pradesh
Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh government had decided to shut down all schools up to class 8 till March 31, 2021. However, now the government has decided to extend the closure of the schools till April 4, 2021 for all students up to class 8. Source: PTI
Punjab
In an attempt to contain the rising number of COVID-19 cases, recently, the Punjab government has ordered that the schools and colleges in the state will remain shut till April 10, 2021. Earlier, the Punjab government had ordered the schools and colleges in the state to close down till March 31, 2021. Source: PTI
Madhya Pradesh
The government has decided to close all schools in the state up to class 8 till April 15, 2021. The Madhya Pradesh School Education Department stated that based on the committee decision taken on December 4, 2020, schools for class 1 to 8 were closed till March 31, 2021. Due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases, the closure till class 8 has been extended to April 15, 2021. Source: PTI
Gujarat

Tamil Nadu
According to the state Revenue and Disaster Management Department, schools in the state of Tamil Nadu have been shut for classes 9,10 and 11 from March 2, 2021 until further notice. Source: PTI
Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh Minister Ravindra Choubey on March 21, 2021 informed that schools, colleges and Anganwadis will be closed in the state due to the massive rise in the number of COVID-19 cases. Source: PTI
