Indian Railways: Good news for Northeast! Brahmaputra Mail set to get new LHB rake
Indian Railways: MCF will dispatch 45 such rakes with earmarked train numbers in order to eliminate the problem of putting the new rakes in a synchronised order.
Good news for Indian Railways passengers who travel to the northeast. The Modern Coach Factory, Raebareli, has produced and dispatched a complete rake of 24 coaches which will replace the existing rake of the Brahmaputra Mail 14055/56 running between Dibrugarh and Delhi. This is also the first rake of the financial year 2019-20 produced by the MCF. This also marks a shift in the way by which the railways' manufacturing units used to dispatch the new coaches.
"Earlier, coaches manufactured in MCF were dispatched as manufactured and as available. Coaches manufactured and allocated to zonal railways were joined to make optimum train length with 22 or 24 coaches and were dispatched to the railways. The coaches sent, were then placed together to form a rake of the train at the originating station involving a lot of shunting," said RP Sharma, CPRO, MCF.
The process sometimes used to take two to three days besides hampering the train operations. Sharma added that to eliminate this problem of rake formation at busy stations from where the train originates, the Railway Board had decided to dispatch the new coaches in the same sequence and composition as placed at present in the earmarked train which will be replaced with the new LHB coaches.
The first rake has been dispatched to Northeast Frontier Railway, Guwahati. The MCF will dispatch 45 such rakes with earmarked train numbers in order to eliminate the problem of putting the new rakes in a synchronised order.
