Dust storm in North India: Do's and don'ts to safeguard your family
Dust storm in North India: With the fury of nature wreaking havoc across many steps, authorities have been forced to take steps to safeguard their citizens. Delhi government has decided to close all evening schools on Tuesday following the weather department's warning about heavy rains and thunderstorm. Haryana too has taken a similar step. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) too will also exercise extreme caution in running of trains in the national capital and NCR. Apart from this, the government has also issued a list of dos and don'ts to deal with emergency situations. Public must follow these instructions to safeguard themselves and their family members.
1. The traffic police asked commuters to check weather conditions before travelling, while the Delhi Metro also has decided to exercise extreme caution in running of trains. It may even stop trains in case wind speed reaches 90 kmph. Photo: IANS
2. As per the advisory, those who are stopping by the road or parking their vehicles should keep away from overhead electrical wires, tinned roofs, trees, etc, and take shelter under only concrete structures. Drivers have been advised to use dippers or parking lights while driving. Photo: PTI
3. Avoid taking a bath or shower or running water for any purpose because lightening can travel along water pipes. You should also keep away from doors, windows, fire places, stoves, bath-tubs or any other charge conductors. Photo: PTI
4. You should also avoid using any corded phones and other electrical equipment. Ensure that children and animals are inside. Photo: PTI
5. You should notice certain indications like, hair standing up on the back of your neck could indicate that a lightening is imminent. You should not lie flat on the ground, as this will make a bigger target. Keep away from all utility lines. Photo: IANS
6. During heavy rains and thunderstorm, you should go to a safe shelter immediately, but avoid metal structures and or constructions with metal sheeting. Ideally find a shelter in a low laying area and make sure that spot chosen is not likely to flood. Photo: IANS
7. Crouch down with feet together and head down to make yourself a smaller object. Do not take shelter under trees as these conduct electricity. Photo: PTI
