The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has developed an artificial intelligence module to monitor its kitchens after the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) had pulled it up over flies, insects, rats and cockroaches found in trains and even food.  The module has been developed in association with New Delhi-based company called WOBOT.   Here is what it does:

1/5

1. CCTV footage will monitor anomalies in standard operating procedure across India.

2/5

2. To begin with, IRCTC  has installed  high definition cameras connected to huge monitors for AI vision detection in 16 base kitchens.

3/5

3. Live streaming of 16 base kitchens is played all the time. The system detects whether IRCTC kitchen staff worn head gear, uniforms, if there are rodents in the kitchen area and mopping is being done across kitchens.

4/5

4. The AI system will be used to improve upon catering units. The system is capable of tracking any anomaly in the entire operation of catering.

5/5

5. Also, if a chef or any kitchen supervisor is not wearing his uniform, including the mandatory cap, the AI system will track that and automatically raise a report to the concerned contractor immediately.
