Anji Khad Bridge: ENGINEERING MARVEL- All you need to know about Indian Railways' first cable-styled bridge in Jammu and Kashmir

Anji Khad Bridge, the country's first cable-stayed Indian Railways bridge, is coming up on Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) section of Northern Railway in Jammu & Kashmir. The project is being developed by the Konkan Railway.

The Ministry of Railways on Monday shared some picture of the bridge and tweeted, An Engineering Marvel: The Anji Bridge, Indian Railways' first Cable-styled Bridge, is coming up on Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) section of Northern Railway in Jammu & Kashmir. 331-metre above the river bed

Anji Khad Bridge stands 331 metres above the river bed (Chenab) and total length of the bridge is 473.25 metres. Given the complex geology of the region that makes it almost impossible for an arch bridge to be constructed, it has a single pylon. It has support of 96 cables. Source: Ministry of Railways.

7th largest arch-shaped bridge in the world

As per the railway ministry officials, Anji Khad Bridge is the seventh-largest arch-shaped bridge in the world as there is no support except on both sides of the river banks. The arch is being supported by piers and trusses.Source: Ministry of Railways.

Highest railway bridge

Highest railway bridge

The Katra-Qazigund leg is the most difficult stretch of the Anji Khad Bridge project. It is part of the USBRL that passes through the Young Himalayas. In July, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal had said that the ambitious railway infrastructure project is being constructed with superior technology and engineering excellence. “Connecting India: Magnificent Anji Khad Bridge, India's 1st cable-stayed rail bridge, will connect Katra and Reasi in Jammu & Kashmir,” he had tweeted.
