Sensex in red, Nifty below 18,400; Hindalco, Coal India drag

IT shares led the rally at Nifty 50 with Wipro and Infosys leading the 50-share pack at the market open. On the 30-share Sensex, 12 advanced and 18 declined. Meanwhile, Tata Motors was again back in the green in the Nifty50 pack as Nestle India and Britannia took over from IT shares to lead the rally on Nifty. Other gainers were State Bank of India and Bharti Airtel on Nifty index. Hindalco, Eicher Motors and Coal India were top drags on Monday
The indices soon shed early minor gains minutes after opening as the Sensex traded in the red at 61,603.19, losing 112.86 points, while Nifty was trading below 18,400 at 18,390.10, a loss of 28.65 points. Nifty Bank also slid beyond 39, 500 after opening at 39,545.45. The banking index was trading at 39,441.80, down 98.70 points or 0.25%. State Bank and ICICI were top gainers on Nifty Bank, while AU Small Finance Bank Ltd and PNB dragged the banking index the most.

Meanwhile, Asian markets were trading with gains in the early trade on Tuesday, October 20. Nikkei 225 Index was trading up at 46 points at 29261, Hang Seng Index on Hong Kong Exchange was up 281 points to 26,068. Shanghai Composite was marginally down by 6 points at 3586 around 9 am.
On the Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 198.70 points, or 0.56%, to 35,457.31, the S&P 500 gained 33.17 points, or 0.74%, to 4,519.63 and the Nasdaq Composite added 107.28 points, or 0.71%, to 15,129.09.
Earlier on Tuesday, Nifty closed at 18,418.75, down 58.30 points or 0.32%, while Sensex lost 49.54 points or 0.08%, to 61,716.05. Nifty Bank also lost early gains after breaching 40,000 points to close at 39,540.50, down 144.30 points.
