The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Friday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing concern over the future of students studying medicine in Ukraine.
The medical body has urged the PM Modi to make a special arrangement to accommodate the existing medical institutions of the country. The IMA demanded in the letter to give admission to the students in local medical colleges according to their home state. This system of admission should be for their remaining courses.
At the same time, it needs to be kept in mind that this immediate relief should not be considered as a permanent arrangement.
IMA said that 17 thousand to 20 thousand students have suddenly left their college due to Russia-Ukraine War. So efforts should be made to complete their studies. They should be admitted here on a humanitarian basis. IMA proposed a 5% increase in medical college seats as a remedy to this problem. The association will also meet the Union Health Minister regarding this issue.
