Share Market Opening Bell! Sensex, Nifty extend gains, metal and pharma stocks lead the pack
Indian markets started Friday’s session with minor gains, as Nifty Index hit a new record high and Sensex was trading near all-time high levels amid strong global cues. The BSE Sensex opened 86 points or 0.16 per cent higher to 53244, while Nifty50 gained over 34 points or 0.2 per cent to 15958 levels.

Outperforming the benchmarks, the mid-cap index from broader markets opened positive with over 113 points or 0.4 per cent to 27868. While Nifty Bank, one of the important indices, grew over 70 points or 0.2 per cent to 35977.9 levels at the market open on Friday.

Of 50 scrips on Nifty50, 41 advanced, and six declined and three remained unchanged minutes after the market open today. On the back of strong Q1 results, Wipro become the most gainer at open today with 0.74 per cent surge, followed by ITC, BPCL, and Hindalco each up over 0.6 per cent.
On the other hand, L&T slumped most by 0.7 per cent in the early morning trade today, followed by Eicher Motor, IOC and Infosys each declining by over 0.6 per cent. Similarly, banking heavyweights such as ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and IndusInd Bank are weak too minutes after the market open on Friday.
The majority of the sectors are in the green today minutes after open, with Nifty Metal and Pharma leading the markets surge, while Nifty Bank, Realty and IT indices are marginally down in the early morning trade today.
On the global front, US markets on Thursday closed mixed as Nasdaq fell sharply while Dow Jones closed with gains after seeing a volatile day. While Asian markets opened weak with the Taiwan and Japanese market seeing profit booking as technology stocks see downgrades after a sharp run-up.
Foreign Institutional Investors, an important trigger to domestic markets, sold shares worth Rs 264.77 crore in cash and bought Rs 439.41 crore in index futures.
The Nifty on Thursday had a positive day closing at fresh new all-time highs as select large-cap private banks, metals, and IT stocks led the benchmarks. Midcaps remain steadfast as the best performing sector with sectoral churn.
